About
Bio
Based in New Orleans, Isaiah Underwood is a dynamic young bassist—equally at home on upright and electric instruments—shaping a sound that bridges acoustic and electric traditions.
Isaiah's musical journey began in the spring of 2022 at Tulane University. Under the mentorship of Jesse McBride and Ashlin Parker, Isaiah discovered the rich and infectious sounds of New Orleans. Captivated, he quickly immersed himself in the city’s musical tradition.
That same passion deepened in the fall of 2023, when he began studying under acclaimed bassist and composer Max Moran. It was that spring, under Max’s guidance, that Isaiah discovered the acoustic bass—an instrument he embraced with swift dedication.
In the years that followed, Isaiah’s commitment to music grew. Driven by a relentless curiosity and desire to grow, he made the decision to shift away from his studies in finance to pursue a life in music.
Since 2022, Isaiah has shared the stage with Gregory Agid, Jesse McBride, Ashlin Parker, Delfeayo Marsalis, Steve Lands, the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, the Uptown Jazz Orchestra, and more.
He has performed at notable festivals and venues like the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, French Quarter Fest, the Ascona Jazz Festival, Snug Harbor, the Dew Drop Inn, Tipitina’s, The Jazz Playhouse, Mahogany Hall, and more.
Isaiah continues to develop his voice as a bassist, drawing inspiration from the energy of New Orleans and the legacy of the musicians he's honored to play alongside.
